RoBio Shipper
RoBio's Shipper is a carrying case for safely transporting and precisely maintaining the temperature of biological samples.
We met Robio in late 2006 and, over the first half of 2007, worked with them to develop a control PCB for their Shipper.
We achieved a temperature measurement precision of +/-0.01°C, and could control the temperature to nearly this precision by controlling a heating element.
A M Bromley services:
- Specification in partnership with customer
- Electronic design and prototyping
- Embedded software incorporating many new ideas as the project evolved
- Manufacture of prototype PCBs
- Design and prototype wiring looms
Features and technology
In addition to precision temperature control, the design also features: 120 x32 pixel LCD graphic display for GUI with different font sizes and graphics, push buttons, data logging to non-volatile memory, real time clock, power supply switching between lithium ion battery, 12V automotive or AA backup, RS232 interface to allow set-up, data logs etc. to be accesses from a PC, 2nd RS232 interface to manage rechargeable lithium ion batteries, 2xAA battery backup can log data and maintain real time clock for 1 year, ambient temperature measurement, ability to measure pressure, programmable in-line or from RS232 encrypting bootloader, multi-tasking firmware, all controlled from single Microchip PIC 18F6527.

AMB’s expertise in temperature control and wide-ranging design and
assembly capability allowed us to outsource the whole of the
electronic system development to them,
freeing our designers to focus on critical mechanical
and thermal design tasks.
The on-time delivery of the Shipper project was made possible by AMB’s
superb input and commitment.
We look forward to working with AMB again on our future development
programmes.
